Getting on A Corporate Board

BoardProspects COO, Megan Wang was recently in conversation with Kenna Baudin and Amee Ricketts Mungo on getting on a corporate board as part of Worth Media Group's Groundbreaking Women Summit.

We encourage you to watch the entire conversation and have shared a few of Megan’s takeaways below.

1. The journey to the boardroom is long & it is just as much an interview with you as it is for you with them - don’t underestimate the importance of finding a mutual fit.

2. Think about the intersection of: 1) your skills, 2) areas of interest / passion (ex. industry) and 3) gaps in oversight / guidance on the board. The nexus of these things is the sweet spot of understanding your value to that specific board - tailor your pitch accordingly.

3. Public vs private board service - it differs greatly and if you’re just beginning your journey to the boardroom, a private company board opportunity is an excellent first step. Think about how your experience might be uniquely valuable to whatever stage the company is at (Series A, B, C, pre-IPO) - and feel confident that the CEO will call you for guidance on those particular challenges.
